Gillian Temple-Bone

Call: 1978

Preferred Counsel for the Equality and Human Rights Commission

Called in 1978, Gillian specialises in children cases as a leading junior in the high court. Her range of work includes, non-accidental injury, factitious illness, sexual abuse, and neglect. The focus of her work is public law, representing local authorities, parents and children. In 2003/4 she represented a local authority alleging parents caused 32 fractures and a major abdominal injury to their child, who died 11 years ago. In 2005/6 she represented parents with mental health difficulties, in care and in a complex contested adoption. Other cases have concerning the sustaining or terminating of life.

In 2005 Gillian represented a local authority alleging the death of a baby by a grandmother which involved three related families, all of whom were immigrants. Gillian is representing a teenager where incest is alleged by a younger sibling in 2006/7, a local authority where the court has found the mother to have attempted to suffocate her young child with special needs, and a father accused of NAI on his daughter.

Until 2006 she practiced in crime and uses her knowledge to good effect where it overlaps in family work. In addition she still appears in criminal cases where there are specific issues related to child injury or death.

Geographically she works primarily in London, the Midlands and South West. Gillian lectures widely, devises and delivers courses on request such as court skills, Human Rights Act, Climbie Report, and Judicial Protocols to lawyers and social workers.
