Crime

Chambers has one of the strongest teams of criminal barristers in the country, comprising ten silks and 38 junior barristers. We offer a comprehensive spread of barristers at every level of seniority, which averts the need for inappropriate internal returns or disruptive external returns. QCs and juniors from Chambers often work together providing experienced and effective teams for complex cases. The Criminal Team is supported by the senior clerk, senior criminal clerk, two specialist criminal clerks and a third junior clerk.

We provide a comprehensive service dealing with all types and levels of criminal case. We cover a very large geographical area including the Midland Circuit together with parts of London and the South-Eastern and North-Eastern Circuits. We undertake prosecution and defence work, both legally aided and privately funded.
Barristers have been instructed to appear and advise in relation to the implementation of sensitive procedings covering offences as wide ranging as terrorism, racially aggravated public disorder, rape and sexual offending against children.

Our expertise in fraud and money laundering is nationally and internationally recognised, with experience in major fraud cases. Members of the criminal team have appeared before the International Tribunals in the Hague and in Arusha, Tanzania, defending those charged with crimes against humanity and genocide. We also have been at the forefront of continuing professional development and training on behalf of the Bar Council and the Midland Circuit in relation to Human Rights Legislation.

All Members of the Criminal Team aim to provide powerful and persuasive advocacy and a prompt and efficient service in accordance with our Best Practice Standards.
