Corporate Manslaughter
36 Bedford Row has a number of barristers who have appeared for the defence or prosecution in cases involving companies or individuals charged with offences arising from major disasters including the capsizing of the Herald of Free Enterprise, the Watford train crash, and the death of a scuba diver at one of the UK’s largest training facilities. Many of our members regularly appear in relation to Regulatory offences and have particular experience in the nuances of corporate civil and criminal trials.
We have recently created a dedicated Corporate Manslaughter Group of members from criminal and civil disciplines in chambers to deal with the regulatory and procedural issues arising out of a death by systemic failure, assisted by expertise from investigators, academics and scientists.
The members’ multifaceted expertise enables them to provide authoritative advice to answer questions across the field of corporate homicide and personal injury.
The Group, in association with the Open University and professional expertise from investigators and scientists, have delivered Seminars on the impact of the Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act 2007. Professor Gary Slapper of the Open University, commented ‘one especially commending feature of this team and this project is that…we are developing this expertise in an organic way. Our collective body of knowledge is excellent because it is not inert but rather a ‘living instrument’ of instruction’.
36 Bedford Row has a continuing programme of education and training on Corporate Manslaughter in association with the Open University.
We produce bi-annual newsletters dealing with Corporate Manslaughter and Health and Safety issues. If you would like a copy of our newsletter or wish to discover the full extent of the services that we can provide please contact our senior clerk, David Green.
