Family
Chambers offers a strong Family Team across all levels of call; four of the team sit as Recorders, two as deputy district judges and Frances Oldham QC sits as Deputy High Court Judges in care proceedings. The team is enhanced by the complementary expertise of several members in related areas such as bankruptcy, criminal and commercial law.
We are a London-based set with a strong Midland Circuit history and presence. We are committed to serve solicitors throughout the Circuit but are by no means limited to this area. Our current client base shows instructions received nationally including London and the West Country. Members of the team are prepared to travel anywhere. We are currently instructed across the board on children's cases receiving regular instruction on behalf of Local Authorities, parents and children's Guardians. We continue to accept graduated fee work, believing strongly that everyone is entitled to full and expert representation. Our caseload includes child abduction (convention) work, cases including matters of highly sensitive family privacy and cases involving the right to undergo and to receive medical treatment. We have a strong and thriving number of members dealing with complex ancillary relief applications and are supportive of and allied to Chambers Agricultural Practice and Local Authority Groups.
We are able to provide counsel appropriate to all levels of Court and complexity of case. We pride ourselves on giving an approachable professional service to all. We are more than happy to attend at solicitors' offices for conferences when this is more convenient.
As a team we hold regular meetings with emphasis on shared experience and in-house training. We also provide updating for our regular solicitors through our quarterly newsletter and lectures (in-house by arrangement). Several Members are regular speakers for Jordans and Central Law Training and two are nominated advocacy trainers for their Inns. The team and those instructing us are supported by the senior clerk and two dedicated family clerks and a third junior clerk.
Members of the Family team contribute to the quarterly newsletter with commentary on current issues of practice and procedure arising from recent cases. Click here for the most recent publication.
